Online Roulette History

Online roulette is today one of the most played online casino games. Online roulette offers an exciting game while giving the players good chances of leaving the casino as a winner, not a sore loser. Here follows a concise roulette history, to let the reader better understand the game.

There's no certainty about the origins of the first roulette, but the credit for having created the first roulette in history goes to the mathematician Blaise Pascal (1623-1662), who devised the instrument while searching for a perpetual motion machine.
Eventually, a gambling game developed out of the large spining wheel devised by Pascal, and its name became roulette ("small wheel"). Roulette gained popularity in France during the 1700s and it soon spread to other parts of Europe; the table layout as we know it today appeared first in 1756 in Paris.

Amongst the various legends about roulette history, it's worth mentioning the one which consider Francois Blanc – founder of the first casino at Monte Carlo – to have created roulette game. Legend tells that Blanc sold his soul to the devil in exchange for the secrets of the roulette. This legend take ground in the fact that all the numbers on the roulette wheel add up to 666, the number of the devil. Even if the legends has no fundament, it was Blanc who had the "devilish" idea of adding the 0 slot on the roulette wheel, thereby increasing the odds in favor of the casino.

In the beginning of the 19th century Americans made their own contribution to Roulette history. French immigrants traversed the Ocean to America, bringing the roulette game with them. American casino owners added a 00 to the roulette wheel, which greatly increased the casino odds, when compared to the French version (single-0 roulette, or French roulette).

Even if the game substantially remained the same through its history, roulette has gone through a major change in recent years: many online casino spawned, which features online roulette game.

The reasons behind the success of the roulette game (and recently the online roulette) are to be found in the simplicity of the rules and of the game itself, and in the thrills and excitement it gives players to see the roulette spinning, while waiting for their number to come up.
